Due to popular demand, here are the back door directions to Ft Steilacoom from the south. If you are coming from the south this is much quicker than going through Tacoma and Lakewood.

I-5 to the Dupont/Steilacoom exit (119). Left turn over the freeway overpass. Get in the right lane, take the free right onto Dupont/Steilacoom rd. Follow about 4 mi into the town of Steilacoom. Take a right on Rainier (espresso by the bay and steily deli). Don’t speed in Steilacoom. Continue up the hill until it turns into Steilacoom Blvd (left). Continue up that hill and enjoy the view of the bay. Continue to 87^th ave (Albertsons) and take a left. Go two blocks, the park entrance is on the left. Continue to the gravel parking lot and info kiosk. You are there.
